Brendan Hunt plays Coach Beard and executive produces Ted Lasso after co-creating the character with Sudeikis in NBC Sports shorts. While living in Amsterdam with series co-creator Joe Kelly and playing FIFA on PlayStation between improv gigs, he educated Sudeikis about soccer.

“I’ve been soccer-translating for Jason for a long-ass time,” Hunt told The Daily Beast 2020. Once I started playing soccer, it was over. I was mad. Crazy, I became a missionary.”

According to LA Weekly, Hunt created and starred in a one-man show on life as an American overseas and Absolutely Filthy, based on a grown-up Pig Pen from Peanuts, after returning to the US. In addition to theater, Hunt starred in Key & Peele, Reno 911!, Community, Parks and Recreation, and Horrible Bosses 2 and We’re the Millers with Sudeikis and Kelly before launching Ted Lasso.

Hunt particularly enjoys Ted Lasso’s season 1 dartboard speech, where he references Walt Whitman and encourages everyone to “be curious, not judgmental.”

“Being curious and not judgmental reminds you that a lot of anger isn’t worth it,” Hunt told The Daily Beast. Of course some are. Some is earned. Often not. Many times it’s unhealthy.”

Hunt participated on Celebrity Jeopardy! before Ted Lasso’s final season and scored $35,600, the highest Coryat score in the series. It also had the 22nd-highest Coryat score of all Jeopardy! episodes and spinoffs.

Hunt joked to Deadline that Coach Beard may return after Ted Lasso’s departure. He remarked, “It would be about Beard starting a new band and going to a different tropical location each episode.” I talked to Tim Cook and he’s delighted, so I think it’ll happen.”

Nick Mohammed as Nathan “Nate the Great” Shelley

Nick Mohammed, who played Nathan “Nate the Great” Shelley in “Ted Lasso,” is a U.K. comedian who became popular abroad.

Mohammed’s showbiz debut was impressive. He played violin and piano as a child and became a magician at 16. After serving as president 2008–2009, he performed with Bradford Magic Circle.

He studied geophysics at Durham University, England. Strangely, Durham Revue, the university’s sketch comedy troupe, rejected him. However, his comic career began differently. Mohammed toured and performed with the Footlights while obtaining a Ph.D. in seismology at Magdalene College, Cambridge.

The 2005 Fringe Festival included his first solo show, “Back In Town Again: – Waltzing out of town.” One of three guests saw his skill, and Mohammed worked with him. His solo festival performances include “The Forer Factor” (2006), “4 quarters” (2007), “Nick Mohammed Is A Character Comedian” (2008), and “Apollo 21” (2009).

The agent got Mohammed into “Life’s Too Short,” “The King Is Dead,” and “Sorry I’ve Got Not Head.” He appeared on BBC Radio 4’s “Quarters” and “Nick Mohammed In Bits.”

Tim Grimes in 2016’s “The Martian,” “Bridget Jones’ Baby” In 2018, Mohammed voiced Piglet in Disney’s live-action “Christopher Robin,” but his breakthrough came in 2020.
